Newport for Babymoon (#2!)
With baby Murray coming in January and a busy fall, we decided to take a short trip up to Newport, RI to kick off the Christmas season! Here is a list of what I wore, where we stayed, ate and did while in town.
What I packed: Tap on the items in the gallery below to shop!
Some of my outfits seen here, here and here.
For two nights, we didn’t have to pack too much:
2 pairs leggings like these
2 sweaters such as this one
1 black turtleneck bodysuit like this
2 wool coats such as this
1 midi sweater skirt like this
Tall comfortable black boot
Comfortable mule like these
Cozy sneaker like this
1 bag like this
With the above, I was able to mix and match the coats to create multiple looks:
Day 1: Sweater (1) + Leggings (1) + boot + Coat (1)
Night 1: Sweater (1) + Leggings (1) + mule + Coat (2)
Day 2: Sweater (2) + Leggings (2) + sneaker + Coat (2)
Night 2: Skirt + bodysuit + mule + Coat (1)
Where we Stayed: Vanderbilt Auberge. You don’t go for the spa like other Auberge properties but you stay for the location and proximity to everything, plus the decor and large rooms. Note: we were upgraded upon arrival, most likely since we were travel during off-peak from Sunday-Tuesday.
Where we ate:
Clarke Cooke House - always perfection both in food and ambiance. We had our dinner here first night and started off with the chowder and split their seasonal cavatelli vegetable pasta and steak frites for our mains. Their banana ice cream with macadamia and white chocolate chips was insane. I recreated the cavatelli dish right when we got home, it was that good!
The Black Pearl - right on the wharf and stopped here for lunch upon arrival. Had to do the chowder. SO GOOD. Cozy ambiance too.
Castle Hill Inn - came for lunch after visiting the Breakers. Again - the chowder. Something about it up in New England; it’s just so much lighter and somewhat more broth-based. Followed that up with the lobster roll and sat right out on the patio, which was covered and heated for the winter, to take in the water and lawn views.
Guisto - relatively new and modern Italian on the wharf. All of their pastas are house made and each dish was so inventive. Scottish meatball is not to be missed as well as the seasonal brussels sprouts caesar.
Corner Cafe - before heading out, we stopped here for breakfast. You can tell this place gets packed on the weekend and we luckily hit it up on a Tuesday. Huge menu, fun playlist of music and casual diner vibes.
What we did:
Since we were there for such a short trip, most of our activities revolved around eating and walking around. The Vanderbilt was in a great location so we could walk to dinner each night.
The main attraction is of course the mansions and walking around the Wharf and Cliff Walk. We did the self guided tour of the Breakers. This was much better than when I went years ago since they now have an app you can download on your phone that walks you through with detail as you go.
It was a gorgeous day in late November, there must have been about 15 surfers out on the water when we took in the view from the Breakers’ second floor balcony.
Shopping can be hit or miss. The wharf has a lot of touristy type of shops and we also stopped on Bellevue where we picked up the cutest Christmas dress for Kaleigh from Bellevue Kids.
