Gallery Wall Hack
With the large blank wall at the bottom of our back staircase that opens up to the kitchen, I envisioned a sleek gallery wall. This was another project that took on many iterations in my head before it came to fruition.
I wanted the wall to look cohesive but not expected. Maintaining the symmetry and same sized frames is classic and clean but adding the different sized mattes in the frames gave it some edge. I love a small photo with a large matte. Very minimalist.
Here are the quick and dirty details on where I got the pieces for my gallery what were inexpensive and achieved the look that I was going for without using a service like Framebridge (which I love for individual framing work - and have used many times).
Frames - high quality for the price.
Picture Light - this one is battery powered so very economical. We. might be doing larger house work down the line where the wall this is on might be changing. We didnโt want to fuss with getting an electrician over to install a picture light but this works great for the look.
Mattes - I brought the frames to Michaels Craft Stores and told them I wanted three different sized mattes (2) 4x6 (2) 5x7 and (2) 8x10. They had a ton of colors and whites to choose from and I left the frames there and they called me once the new mattes were ready to be picked up. From there, I took them home and got to play with the different photos I wanted to use for my project.
